Pillow.md is one Markdown document for your whole organization that describes your product: its features, workflows, and the names your product’s users see on screen. The agent reads it in every interview so it can follow what participants say about your product, and the Study Builder, Ask Pillow, and insights use it too. Pillow.md holds facts, not instructions. The agent reads it as product facts and terminology and does not follow instructions written in it. To tell the agent how to run one study, use research notes. Write Pillow.md yourself in the editor, or have a coding assistant draft it from your product’s repository.

Open Pillow.md

In the dashboard sidebar, click Pillow.md.

Write the document

On the Edit tab, write or paste your product description in Markdown. Cover what your product does, who it serves, its key workflows, and its plans and integrations. Spell the terms your users see exactly as they appear in your product. For the checkout study, Pillow.md might start:

Click Save.

Draft Pillow.md from your product repository

If you have Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor and access to your product’s repository, the assistant can draft the document for you.

Copy the prompt

On the Pillow.md page, click Copy on the prompt.md block.

Run the prompt in your repository

Open Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor at the root of your product’s repository and run the prompt. The assistant writes a Pillow.md file there and changes no other file. The file describes your product as its users see it, without source code or secrets.

Paste and save

Paste the file’s contents into the editor on the Edit tab, then click Save.
Once you save, every draft study uses your Pillow.md, and every study you create from then on starts with it.

Update Pillow.md

Edit the document on the Pillow.md page and click Save. Whether a study picks up the change depends on its state:
  • Draft: uses the latest saved version. Each save updates every draft study.
  • Live or ended: keeps the version saved when the study went live. Later saves don’t change it.
