Ask Pillow about your interviews

Ask a question about a study’s interviews and get an answer that cites the interviews it draws on. Ask Pillow works while the study is live and after it ends. For the written report Pillow writes when a study ends, see Read your study’s insights.

Ask a question

In the Ask Pillow panel on the study page, type your question and send it. With the running example, you might ask:

Why do shoppers leave at the payment step?

What would have convinced them to finish their order?

Before sending, choose how long answers are: Detailed (the default) or Concise.

What you can ask

Ask Pillow reads your study’s interviews and can:

• find themes and quote participants on a topic,
• compare groups of participants by their metadata, such as country, device, language, or any field you passed in the study link,
• compare how often two or three topics come up, and in which interviews,
• report how far participants got through the interview,
• list recurring problems and feature requests participants mentioned,
• point you to the interviews most worth reading.

To compare a group, name it in your question:

Among participants on mobile, what goes wrong when they enter card details?

While the study is live, answers cover the interviews collected so far.

Focus a question on one interview or question

Attach context to make your next question about one item:

• An interview: in the interview header, click Ask Pillow and choose New thread or an existing thread.
• An Overview question: on the Overview tab, click the question’s ID (such as Q3) and choose a thread.

Manage threads

Each thread keeps its own history. Closing a thread’s tab keeps the thread in Thread history, where you can continue or delete it. Threads are personal. Teammates don’t see your threads unless you share them.

Share a thread or an answer

Click Share in the thread’s tab bar to share the whole thread, or Share on one answer. See Export and share results.
